Preschool....here we come

We found a preschool for Addyson in Conyers. She starts at Conyers United Methodist in August. She is so excited...and I am excited, but a little nervous too. She'll go 3 days a week for 4 hours a day. I guess I am nervous about several things but a lot of it has to do with her allergies. I have kept such a close eye on her for 2 1/2 years about watching everything that she puts in her mouth. So, in a preschool environment where there will be foods and snacks that other kids bring, I am nervous. And, I am nervous about parties with cake, ice cream, and candy. And, having to tell her that she can't have any of it. We've been to plenty of birthday parties, and I usually have her entertained with something else at cake time to distract her. Dairy, soy, eggs, strawberries, bananas, nuts, etc....there is just so much that she can't have. But I know that she'll be fine and adapt...and I will too, I think. ;)

Yes, I have the same concerns that you have, but she will be exposed to all the things when she goes to regular school. I know you will stress your concerns to her teachers and hopefully they will take care of all that. I know Addy is looking forward to starting school!
Love you!

Yay!!! That is great, but I know you must be very concerned. I am sure her teachers will be very careful with dairy around her. I know she will just love her new school and all of her new friends!

We're in the talks for MMO as well. I told Stephen I wanted to wait for the new baby to come...establish somewhat of a routine and figure things out from there. Let me know if you have any pointers for me. I'm thinking 2 days a week....maybe just 1. Just something for a little break between 2 kids.

It makes a lot of sense that you would be concerned! The good news is the teachers have probably had or currently have other children with allergies. When I teach her age on Sunday's, we are very cautious about snacks and go as far as to make sure that the container we store snacks in has never had allergic products in it. And all of our kids wear tags and an extra one that's bright yellow if they have allergies(with there specific allergies listed on the tag). That way even if there are substitutes that day they will be kept safe. I'm sure your preschool has similar protective policies in place. I encourage you to ask them about it, if you don't already know.

Lauren had a little boy in her class this year who was allergic to a lot of things. Her teacher did a great job of keeping his snacks separate and making it special for him. I specifically remember one day they made "dirt pudding (with gummy worms)," which he could not have. BUT, he got to have "sand and ants," which was applesauce and raisins. Hopefully Addy will have a really creative teacher as well.

As a teacher, I can say we do take what parents tell us very seriously! Just STRESS to the teacher how these foods should not go anywhere near Addy's mouth! I think she will adjust fine to not being able to have the same foods as the other kids, but this will come with time and her understanding of-why! Good Luck!

Mine start in August and I am a little nervous, too, about how they'll do, but they have each other so that helps. I know the food issues have to make you concerned. It would any mother that has to deal with that. I hope she adjusts well to it all. It seems like you handle it so well.
